Dr. Smita Srivastava has experience in the application of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering principles to facilitate the development of sustainable bioprocesses for commercial production of high-value low-volume phytochemicals. As faculty at IIT Madras, Dr. Smita and her research group have set up a plant cell cultivation facility up to reactor level in the Department of Biotechnology at IIT Madras, to facilitate research on mass cultivation of plant cells/tissues for in vitro production of high-value phytochemicals. Her research experience in the area of bioprocessing for phytochemicals is demonstrated by19 peer reviewed international journal publications, 4 book chapters, 4 Indian patent applications and 27 different international/national conference presentations (as first/corresponding author) in the area of bioprocessing for phytochemicals. To promote research in specialized field like “Plant Cell Bioprocess”, she has formulated and offers a course (as a professional elective) on “Plant Cell Bioprocessing” to undergraduates and postgraduate students at IIT Madras since 2012. She has also been affiliated to the Teaching and Learning Center at IIT Madras (as a core and executive member), since 2011. She has rendered her services as coordinator and resource person in various workshops conducted by TLC for faculty development/training programs and teaching assistant training programmes
