Course Name: Defects in Materials

Course abstract

Defects play an important role in imparting properties to materials. It is also used to tailor the properties as well as in controlling the deformation behavior. Aim of this course is to give a brief introduction to the various types of defects and how their interaction can used to control the properties.

Prof. Sundararaman M

Dr. Sundararaman M is Visiting Professor in the department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, IIT Madras since July 2014. He was senior scientist at Metallurgy Division, Bhabha atomic Research Centre, Mumbai till 2011. For a brief period of 3 and ½ years, he was professor and dean , School of Engineering Sciences & Technology, University of Hyderabad. His research interests are phase transformations in materials, defect characterization , structure property correlation and electron microscopy.
